We are so in LOVE with the Puppy Bowl!! The Puppy Bowl is an annual Television program on Animal Planet that mimics an American football game similar to the Super Bowl.  Shown each year on the same day as Super Bowl.  The show consists of footage of a batch of puppies at play inside a model stadium with commentary on their actions and instant replay shots.  The very first Puppy Bowl was in February 2005.  It is celebrating its 15th year this year.

Like past years, the 2019 Puppy Bowl will feature dozens of adorable, adoptable, baby dogs from shelters across North America. These adorable puppies will be divided into Team Ruff and Team Fluff to compete for the Chewy.com “Lombarky” trophy at Geico Stadium.  The dog with the most touchdowns will receive the Most Valuable Puppy (MVP) award.

Several months of planning occur before each show, which is usually filmed in October.  A vet is on site to ensure animal safety and well-being.  According to Animal Planet 53 hours of filming are needed to produce a single puppy bowl. In addition, 3 baby porcupines will cheer on Team Ruff and A baby Capybara will be on the sidelines rooting for Team Fluff.   As well, longtime Rufferee Dan Schachner returns this year.  Above all, you will definitely want to see the kitty half time show too!!

Because these particular puppies have been adopted since the event was filmed in October, rather the larger purpose of Puppy Bowl is to raise awareness about pet adoption and remind us that there are countless other pups out there who need homes of all ages.

Some great reasons to adopt:

  1. You save a life!
  2. You help break the cycle of pet overpopulation.
  3. You pay less.
  4. You encourage others to adopt from shelters.
  5. You can choose from a great selection of animals some purebred, some mutts.
  6. You support a valuable charity and community institution

As a result, if the Puppy Bowl inspires you to explore the option of rescuing a dog or cat, Animal Planet has compiled a list of resources that will help you get started! Here is the link! http://www.animalplanet.com/tv-shows/puppy-bowl/inside-the-bowl/pet-adoption/
