Preventing Tightness in Your Horse's Poll

January 10, 2020 2 min read

While the horse’s poll is a small area, it is very important to a horse’s well-being. The comfort and health of the horse’s poll is one of the central keys not only to a horse’s performance, but more importantly to their short- and long-term soundness. It is common for horses to experience tightness around their poll. Also, as horses age their poll becomes arthritic and stiff. Any injury or discomfort can affect the rest of their body and their ability to move freely. Several common equine activities may contribute to or aggravate poll tightness and could be from training or management practices. However, any action that entails a repetitive motion or stretching may cause the muscle involved to become tight. Equine dental problems could be a factor of tightness in the poll; cervical vertebra that’s out of alignment may contribute to poll tightness as well.

Common Symptoms:

  1. Not giving to the bit
  2. Feels heavier in one rein than the other
  3. Ear/head sensitive to touch
  4. Swelling and heat in the poll
  5. Pulling on the reins
  6. Resist bending in one direction
BeneFab’s Smart Therapeutic Poll Pad is specialized to help benefit this important part of a horse’s anatomy. The Poll Pad fabric is infused with far-infrared emitting minerals that keep muscles supple and relaxed. It Features 2 magnets (2400 gauss) in the center of the Poll Pad to target key acupressure points on the poll or brow area (Governing Vessel 24). We have selected these magnets to serve to that affect by pulling the blood to those targeted areas which will continually stimulate those areas during and after the Smart Poll Pad is worn. Each magnet is enclosed in a soft cushion for enhanced comfort. Reduce pain and stiffness by increasing oxygen flow and blood circulation in the muscles surrounding your horse’s poll. The Smart Therapeutic Poll Pad is equally beneficial and user friendly. Its machine-washable material is breathable while still absorbing moisture, ensuring the comfort of any horse wearing it. Velcro fastenings make attaching and removing the Poll Pad from the halter or bridle fast and easy. The Smart Poll Pad is available in multiple colors, like black, pink, blue, and purple.
