Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Jan 31, 2020
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel is a passageway from the wrist to the hand, and is made of tendons, ligaments, and bones. The median nerve passes through the tunnel and provides sensation to your thumb, index finger, middle finger and the thumb side of the ring finger. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common problem affecting hand function, caused by compression of the median nerve at the wrist. It most often occurs when the median nerve in the wrist becomes inflamed after being aggravated by repetitive movements, such as typing on a computer keyboard, talking on the phone (holding phone to the ear), or texting. It can occur in one or both hands.

Symptoms:

  1. Numbness, tingling, or weakness in your hand
  2. Pain and burning traveling up the arm
  3. Wrist pain at night that interferes with sleep
  4. Weakness in the muscles of the hand
You may first notice symptoms at night, however, you may be able to get relief by shaking your hand. As the condition progresses, symptoms may persist during the day. The person may lose grip strength and find it harder to form a fist or grasp small objects. Mild symptoms usually can be treated with home care.

You can:

  1. Stop activities that cause numbness and pain
  2. Rest your wrist longer between activities
  3. Ice your wrist for 10 to 15 minutes 1 or 2 times an hour
  4. Try taking an anti-inflammatory to relieve pain and reduce swelling
  5. Wear a wrist splint at night (this takes pressure off your median nerve)
  6. Exercises or stretches
The sooner you start treatment, the better your chances of stopping symptoms and preventing long-term damage to the nerve. Whether the pain is caused from overuse, joint related diagnosis or injury, the Benefab® Therapeutic Gloves create an easy to use solution. Featuring a 3” wrist rise, they are beneficial for pain extending into the wrist as well. Designed fingerless for easy completion of daily activities, they are also thin enough to be used as a liner to a standard winter glove for warmth. Our Therapeutic Gloves are designed to help relieve symptoms from conditions such as Carpal Tunnel, Arthritis, and more. All the benefits of pressure gloves without the discomfort of compression! Glove fabric is infused with far-infrared rays keeping muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments supple and relaxed. They help harmonize bodily functions safely and naturally stimulating recovery time, promoting blood circulation, increasing oxygen flow, and ultimately reducing pain and stiffness.
