5 Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar for Horses

Nov 27, 2019
5 Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar for Horses
Apple Cider Vinegar has tons of benefits not only for you, but your horses as well! Apple cider vinegar is produced by the fermentation of carbohydrates. Which the natural sugar in the juice of apples converts to alcohol, making apple cider. When the alcohol in the cider is combined with air by the action of Acetobacter bacteria, the apple cider turns to vinegar. Acetum is the Latin word for vinegar. It has been used as a natural health supplement for generations. ACV’s effectiveness has been scientifically proven for improving diabetes, heart health and blood pressure, detoxifying and cleansing the digestive tract and cleaning out the colon. As well as clearing funguses and skin allergies, killing or slowing the growth of cancer cells and lowering body fat/weight. From inside and out, you’ll notice amazing changes for health and wellness.

Here are 5 benefits:

1. Improve digestion and balance PH levels: Apple Cider Vinegar works to acidify the horse’s stomach for better digestion, cleansing the digestic tract. It can also aid in the absorption of minerals and helps balance the acid/alkaline ratio which is important for good health. 2. Natural Insect Repellant: A benefit of feeding your horse apple cider vinegar is to make the horse less attractive to flies and insects. Some professionals believe that horses sweat the vinegar out so that it becomes a natural repellant. Or you can make your own non-toxic Fly Spray.

Quick Fly Spray

18 oz. apple cider vinegar 2 Tbsp. dish washing soap. Mix in a 20 oz. spray bottle and shake gently until well blended. You may add water to dilute. Spray liberally on your horse. 3. Hoof and Fungus Issues: Thrush and other foot fungus infections can be greatly reduced by a regular spray or soak application of apple cider vinegar to the sole and frog of a horse's feet. By making the hoof area more acidic, fungus is no longer able to grow well there. 4. Intestinal stones: Intestinal stones called enteroliths, can develop in susceptible horses which can cause blockages that require expensive surgery. Since the ingestion of vinegar increases the intestinal acidity in horses, it helps prevent these stones from forming. 5. Pain and Stiffness: When ACV is fed daily, your horse can experience improved joint health. It can help break down acid crystals, which can build up in joints and cause your horse stiffness and soreness. However, It is recommended to feed no more than one cup of apple cider vinegar daily. It should also be diluted with water at a 50/50 ratio. Look for great quality ACV that contains “the mother”. It should be raw and organic. Above all, using raw apple cider vinegar in your horse’s care program may be helpful in keeping them happy and healthy for years to come.
