If you are a lover of horses, which we know you are, you have most likely watched all of these movies. The list of movies that would warm a horse lover's heart is very long. We wanted to share our top picks and we would love to hear yours as well. It all started in 1944 with National Velvet. With two Oscar wins, Mickey Rooney and Elizabeth Taylor portrayed a story of a young girl with dreams of winning England's Grand National Sweepstakes. She has the help of a jaded former jockey who partners with her in this grand dream. As it is with so many of the best horse movies, this story shares the story of an underdog wowing the masses. If you have never had the pleasure of watching "The Pie" perform, you must grab some popcorn and sit down with this equestrian gem. The sequel, International Velvet stormed the box office in 1978. The love story between a girl and her horse just continues with Sarah and Arizona Pie in this beautifully written movie, International Velvet. You know that feeling of freedom when you ride a horse? The Black Stallion is the movie that so epically showcased that feeling on film. Think Arabian Stallion on a ship, followed by a shipwreck. Traveling across the sea, young Alec falls in love with this beautiful black stallion and after they are shipwrecked, and abandoned on a deserted island, young Alec wins the trust of this magnificent creature. This masterpiece of a movie was filmed in 1979, but a movie for all the ages. What horse lover doesn't want to ride their horse bridle-less and saddle-less on a deserted beach, right? Best. Movie. Ever. At least we think so! Filmed in 1982, Man From Snowy River tells a story about a father and son during the 1880's in Australia. Every horse lover wants a horse like Danny. The famous scene at the end of this movie is epic in the minds of all who have watched. A horse and rider trusting each other enough to take a leap, literally. This story has love, family feuds, Australian brumbies, more love and of course horses, beautiful wild horses! Packed with action, love and challenges, this movie is one you can watch over and over and never tire of the scenery, accents and beautiful horses! The Horse Whisperer. The title of this movie is perfect and so beautifully tells the story of a traumatized young girl and an injured horse. This 1998 classic is also a movie that is full of turmoil, challenges, family drama and a wonderful, heart swelling story of a girl and her horse. The healing effect that a horse, or most any animal for that matter, is enormous. Overcoming a tragedy, that would have most certainly paralyzed a young girl emotionally, was made easier with love from a Montana local and a horse with a spirit as wide as the Montana sky. As we mentioned, the list of amazing horse movies is LONG. Please feel free to share your favorite horse movies with us here or on social media!
